New Premises for AWS Legal

AWS Legal will be on the move in the next year, with plans underway for brand-new premises on Don Street.
Following a period of substantial growth for the region’s largest law firm, the company will relocate from its Spey Street office to a new building directly behind it.
Marketing and communications manager Tajinder Walia said specifics for the building were not yet available but it would be modern and much for fit-for-purpose than the current one.
The existing office has been home to AWS Legal for the past 30 years, but had become too small to comfortably house the 54 staff.
Preliminary work was already underway and it was anticipated demolition of the existing buildings at the new site would start in September.
Chair of partners Aaron Drake said, although a substantial amount of work and investment had already been completed on the new building design, Covid-19 saw the business reconsider the original plans to ensure they reflected business moving forward.
“While the financial commitment the firm is making to the project is significant, it made complete sense to the partnership to commit to a new build.
“We have been operating in Southland for over 130 years and on the strength of our loyal client base and our confidence in the Southland economy, we decided to invest in the future of our people and clients.”
The new premises would provide a modern, comfortable environment for both clients and staff with the design ensuring the firm stays at the forefront of technological advances, he said.
AWS Legal also has offices in Queenstown, Cromwell, Alexandra, Winton, Gore and Te Anau.
