Sammi Smith said she was at a point where she felt she wasn’t in charge of things and  decided she had to had to make things happen and just went for it.

She says she doesn’t have a dress making background but does know what looks good.

Sammi Smith says she has done a marketing course so knew how to get a business going.

Ms Smith says her first step was to survey plus sized women to see if they would use the service and discovered that “Yes!” was the resounding answer.

She says her research showed that no-one was providing this sort of hire service.

The dresses are sourced new and have to be around the $200 price point.

Sammi Smith says word has spread so quickly that several New Zealand dressmakers have contacted her to see if they can offer products.

She says her first rental went to a customer in Rotorua.

Ms Smith says the word is spreading quickly to with women all around New Zealand contacting her about hiring dresses for special occasions.

She says she has also been overwhelmed by the number of messages from women expressing positivity with the launch of the new business.
