Margot Hishon has been appointed as the new Chair of Community Trust South. With extensive governance experience, Mrs Hishon previously held the role between 2016 and 2018 and has a strong understanding of the Trust’s operations and the communities it supports.

Community Trust South Chief Executive Jackie Flutey confirmed that Mrs Hishon’s appointment was made during the Trust’s recent board meeting.

Based in Winton, Mrs Hishon is actively involved in several governance roles across central Southland, including Central Southland Community Support Workers and Able Charitable Trust. Her ongoing involvement in these groups gives her strong connections to the wider community.

“It’s a privilege to be appointed Chair of the Trust for a second term,” Mrs Hishon said. “I’m looking forward to building on the Trust’s strong history and encouraging smart investments and effective grants to boost the prosperity, diversity, creativity, and innovation across the community we serve. Together, with Trustees and their clear passion for our communities, I believe the Trust will continue to have sustained impact across our rohe.”

Mrs Hishon will be supported in her role by Deputy Chair Stephen Canny, along with Trustees Sam Grant, Bharat Guha, Leon Hartnett, Mel Montgomery, Maria Pera, Leanne Samuel, Warren Skerrett, Bridgette Smith, and board intern Emma Philpott.

Mrs Hishon takes over from outgoing Chair Kirsty Pickett. She expressed her gratitude for Mrs Pickett’s leadership, recognising her efforts over the past 18 months and her contribution to both the Trust and the wider community.

Community Trust South manages a community endowment exceeding $250 million. By distributing millions of dollars in grants, scholarships, and community loans each year, the Trust aims to create a thriving environment for people across the region.
