A new tuatara is stalking the streets of Invercargill, providing weary cyclists a unique place to park their bikes.
The tuatara bike stand has been positioned outside the Invercargill Public Library and blessed by Waihopai runaka representative Victor Manawatu.
We would also like to acknowledge the support of Zealan Simpkins, on behalf of Ngati Koata, who are kaitiaki of the taonga species.
Designed by Fi Innovations and built by Sheet Metalcraft, the attractive bike stand is a great start to increasing the normalisation of active transport in Invercargill.
The project was born from insights which identified the community wanted more local-centric bike stands and driven from the Active Transport Innovator role which is shared by Invercargill City Council, Southland District Council and Active Southland’s Healthy Families Invercargill team.
