A re-elected National Government will make the security and supply of New Zealand’s fertiliser a priority to support Southland farmers, National’s Invercargill candidate Penny Simmonds says.
“Fertiliser supply is crucial to our farming future.
“Without reliable access, the farming sector in the South could not sustain anything close to its current production base.
“New Zealand plans for fuel security and energy security - National believes we should also plan for fertiliser security to protect the productive economy.
“We’ll do this by negotiating fertiliser security agreements, with key supplier countries, to protect New Zealand-bound product from export restrictions.
“We’ll provide early warning of supply disruptions and keep essential nutrients flowing to farmers.
“National backs farmers in the South, as part of our plan to grow the economy, spend sensibly and get debt down, with no new taxes.”
