There will be only three colours on people’s radar this Friday – red, black and white – and it’s all for Buy A Brick Day.

The team behind the Southland Charity Hospital has been overwhelmed by the community support for the cause, not just in the South but from all over the country.

Videos have been sent to the Facebook page – from rugby clubs in Kaikoura to Edendale, showing their support, as well as small country schools such as Poolburn in Central Otago who hosted a sausage sizzle (check out www.facebook.com/southlandcharityhospital).

Kaos hair salon managed to raise a whopping $15,000 from their efforts over the past week, with donations continuing to pour in from customers.

Salon owner Felicity Diac said they were overwhelmed with people on Monday when they held a special treatment and blow wave day for just $35.

There were free platters of food on offer as well, and on top of the bookings they took walk-ins off the street.

“The Southland Charity Hospital needs a good influx of cash at the moment, so we just jumped on it.”

An additional $500,000 minimum in donations needs to be raised before the charity hospital team can proceed with refurbishing its building in Invercargill.

The building was donated by ILT, and within the first week of the fundraising campaign, they had already managed to sell more than 1000 of the 5000 bricks available.

Buy A Brick Day is set to be a crucial part of the fundraising efforts to ensure a new hospital is able to be built sooner than later – with plans to start in August.

The Southland Charity Hospital is hoping to reach the $1 million mark (with $500,000 already received in donations before the fundraiser began).

Kiwi businesses, schools and organisations are encouraged to hold a Casual Friday this July 31 and use proceeds from their fundraising efforts to purchase engraved supporter’s bricks, which will form the path from the carpark to the hospital, or commemorative plaques, which will be situated in Blair’s Garden on-site.
