Te Anau is looking forward to hosting the inaugural Te Anau Motorama – 1st Annual Te Anau Car & Bike Show this Saturday 12 November 2022 to be held at the Te Anau Rugby Grounds on Dusky Street Te Anau.
Nathan Botting Organiser said “The event was originally scheduled for 12 February 2022 and the event was building momentum to be a great event unfortunately Covid-19 postponed life for a bit. Our sponsors and committee members have been very understanding with the delay. Rescheduling has given us more time to get a website up and going and also fine tune some details”.
But the “Cruise with a View” was still held on 11 February 2022 with up to 35 Te Anau car enthusiasts. Cars participating from a 1927 Model to modern day including motorbikes and a jeep. It was a strong following of a further 20 cars who didn’t participate. A great turnout from word of mouth on the gathering of like-minded people.
This weekend event will kick-off on the “Friday Night Cruise” 11 November, with ‘Lets Go Cruising’. Meet at the Fiordland Community Events Centre carpark, the starting point assembling at 6.00pm and leaving at 6.45pm – 7.00pm. They will travel around the streets of Te Anau and finish at Te Anau Club Carpark on Cnr Jackson St & Pop Andrew Drive, Te Anau.
The loop is approx. 23km long and a good opportunity for residents to check out some of the cars prior to the show from your own driveway. A $5.00 donation to support Southland Charity Hospital.
“There are six categories which have all got local sponsors for each one, these are Best American vehicle, Best Australian vehicle, Best Motorbike, Best unique/ Other vehicle, Best European vehicle and People’s Choice Award”, said Nathan Botting spokesperson for Organising Committee.
The Car Show starts at 10.00am-3.00pm on Saturday with parking and set up by the participants. The Car Show will finish off with Prize-giving
“We currently have approx..100 cars registered for the event, with 20 of those from Te Anau Basin area but could attract over 100 cars for judging by the out-of-town interest. Participants can register at the Friday night cruise or on the day of the show, $20 per bike/car”.
“There will be Unique Vehicles, Raffles, T-shirts, Market, Bar, Live Music, and food vendors on-site. The event is organised in association with Te Anau Events”, said Nathan.
“We are very excited to be organizing a new event for the Te Anau district. We managed to secure great sponsorship from some awesome local business to help run this first event. I look forward to seeing people sitting on the streets watching the cruise on Friday night and am hoping for a massive turn-out of unique and special cars on Saturday”.
“The word around Southland is that it will be the place to be on the 12th. Hopefully the weather plays the game”, he said.
