Today we have an exciting update on the progress of the Hawthorndale Care Village project. We had the privilege of speaking with Paddy O’Brien, a committee member, and Nick Hamlin, the project manager, who provided us with the latest information.

The Hawthorndale Care Village project is a $35 million initiative aimed at developing a state-of-the-art residential care facility for the elderly in Southland. The project has been in the works for some time now, and we’re happy to report that groundwork is well underway.

The earthworks contract, which began just before Christmas, is now 75% complete, and the team has about ten diggers on-site working tirelessly to lay services roadways in preparation for the next phase of construction. The team hopes to have most of the roadworks completed by the end of May, which will allow the builders to start constructing the various buildings that make up the Hawthorndale Care Village.

The project is set to create much-needed employment opportunities in the region, and the finished facility will provide a much-needed service to the community. The Hawthorndale Care Village will provide residential care, dementia care, and respite care services to the elderly, ensuring that they receive the care and support they need in their later years.

Committee member Paddy O’Brien said that although we have reached the target of $35million to build the village, we still need donations over the next two years, so when the village opens, there’s no shortfall of funding to complete it.

We look forward to following the progress of the Hawthorndale Care Village project and bringing you more updates as they become available. Stay tuned for more news on this exciting development.
