Two people are dead following a microlight aircraft crash near Kaka Point, south of Dunedin
A St John spokesman confirmed two ambulances were sent to the scene, believed to be a farm in the area, and two helicopters were mobilised.
Those helicopters were stood down once paramedics arrived at the scene and assessed the situation.
He confirmed two people were dead at the scene, but referred all other comment to police.
A police spokeswoman said police were at the scene of a microlight crash.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority the plane was a Rans S6 microlight.
Police received reports of the crash about 10.10am this morning, and are now in attendance at the scene.
A fire department spokesman said the crash site was located around Ahuriri Flat, between Owaka and Kaka Point.
