Invercargill City Mayor Nobby Clark is back to work as city Mayor today.
“I’m feeling good and I’m ready to get back to work,” Mayor Clark said.
“It’s been a long road to recovery – but I’m well rested and up for the challenges ahead.”
Following Mayor Clark’s heart attack on December 27 and through his subsequent heart surgery, Invercargill City Deputy Mayor Tom Campbell has stepped into the mayoral role in the interim, as Mayor Clark has continued to heal at home.
“Our thoughts have been with Mayor Clark and his family as he’s prioritised his health,” Cr Campbell said.
“Now we wish him well and offer our support as he prepares to resume his full duties as Mayor next Monday.”
Invercargill City Council Chief Executive Michael Day said he was pleased and relieved that Mayor Clark had made such a remarkable recovery after a life-changing event.
“We are heartened by Mayor Clark’s enthusiasm to return to his role and welcome him back,” Day said.
“The executive team would also like to extend an enormous thank you to Deputy Mayor Campbell for taking on mayoral duties for the past two months, as Mayor Clark recovered.
His time and effort have been greatly appreciated by Council staff and the greater community.”
