The Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) is proud to announce the inaugural celebration of the Maori New Year, Matariki, at its campus in Invercargill. This will be held as a component of the Re-O Week activities that have been planned for new and returning students in July.
The event will be hosted in collaboration with Te Wananga o Aotearoa and Nga Kete Matauranga Pounamu (nkmp) and promises to showcase a number of activities for the young and old. Visitors will be entertained by a Kaumatua Ukulele group, live music, stories and Kapa Haka. There will also be a range of food stalls, a hangi, kids area and weaving tutorial.
The Matariki celebration will be held on Friday, July 12 from 5pm to 8pm at SIT’s main campus and is free entry and open to all.
