Wow! The word Wow can be a bit over used at times, but not so with the show Mary Poppins The Broadway Musical. Mary Poppins  has the Wow factor from start to finish, something that theatre goers in the south expect from Invercargill Musical Theatre productions.

The cast is up there with any professional production. Neale Smith’s lighting is superb, John Harding’s  set design means everything flows in a simply stunning way and the orchestra under Michael Buick’s direction is a well oiled machine.

Director Stephen Robertson has left no stone unturned to gain maximum effect from every cast member in every scene.

As for the leads, we are so lucky to have Emily Burns and Nick Purdie come to Invers to stun us as Mary Poppins and Bert the Chimney Sweep. The cast members can be rightfully proud of what they have created over the last few weeks of intense rehearsals leaving their everyday lives at the stage door to step over the line to create some magic.

The songs, all the favourites are there but Supercali….(you know the rest), Precision and Order and Step In Time by themselves are worth the cost of admission.

Bravo, bravo to everyone involved and believe me there are plenty of Invers people involved, not just the people we see on the stage.

Indulge in some mid winter magic and take in Mary Poppins . A spoonful of this will certainly help your medicine go down.

IMT’s production of Mary Poppins runs until the 23rd of July at the Civic Theatre.
