Marching Southland is gearing up to host the South Island champs in early December for the first time since 2017.
Publicity officer Sheree Hall said seven strong teams from Southland amongst 27 total from around New Zealand would be taking part in the event on December 10.
Held at Stadium Southland, admission to the public is free and the public is invited to come along and watch the different grades – which will feature U13, U18, Seniors and Masters.
There will also be a local competition on December 9th the day before the big South Island event.
Sheree said lots of hard work and preparation goes into organising an event like this, and many people have multiple roles including judging, coaching as well as being chaperones.
“Our dedicated committee and group of volunteers have worked tirelessly to organise accommodation, food, music, venue, timetables, souvenirs, uniforms, publicity, co-ordination between associations, coaches, judges, officials and teams.”
Marching Southland has also entered the Murihiku Christmas Tree Festival at Stadium Southland, and has selected Ronald McDonald Family Room Southland as its chosen charity.
