Hi there team.
Here we are at the end of April and time to celebrate the birthday of one America’s best known singer songwriters, the one and only William Hugh Nelson, or just plain ol’ Willie.
But before we do that, we must acknowledge the passing of former Exponents guitarist Dave Barraclough. Dave passed away after a very brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
No doubt Dave came to Invers a few times while on the road with The Exponents.
RIP Dave.
Back to our main turn. Willie turned 85 at the weekend, yep 85!
No kicking back in the old folks home for this dude. He says he is still drinking, smoking and performing. He’s currently working on an album doing Sinatra songs. Should be good.
For our Music Memory here is Willie with faithful and battered old guitar Trigger and Shania Twain doing arguably Willie’s signature tune Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain.
I say arguably as Willie has written and sung so many great songs.
Have you seen Willie in concert? I know he has been to NZ a couple of times.
And make a point of calling in to see Hayden and Toni at Little Fire Musicworks on Dee Street this week. They’ve got a great range of electric and acoustic guitars but I’d hazard a guess and say they haven’t got a guitar like Trigger!
Enjoy Willie and Shania doing Blue Eyes ….and keep warm this week
Cheers
Mal
