Hey there team and apologies for running a tad late with this weeks edition compliments of Little Fire Music Works on Dee St.
As it’s been a holiday weekend we’ll have a double dose, a best of British and one from from the land of the brave and the free, both from landmark LP’s
First up a track from Deep Purple’s Machine Head album, yeah the album that has the legendary Smoke On The Water on it.
This is side 1 track 1, Highway Star. The track was written on a tour bus as the band traveled to a gig and was let loose on the audience that night. That’s how good they were!
Enjoy Highway Star
Second up you can probably ask the question “is this track weirdly strange or does it go past the point of brilliance?”
It’s a track from a band not known for going Sgt Pepperish for the want of a better term but I’ve always had a special spot for the band and this track.
It’s from The Doobie Bros Stampede LP from the mid 70’s.
The album is significant as founding member and driving force Tom Johnston was moving out and Michael McDonald was moving in. McDonald of course took the Doobies to a whole new level.
Stampede has got some banging tracks on it but this in my opinion is the jewel in the crown. The strange and mysterious I Cheat The Hangman.
