Mal’s Music Memory – RIP Bill Withers

Hi team and welcome to another lock down weekend.

Sorry to report the passing of Bill Withers at the age of 81 following heart complications

Withers came from a small West Virginia coal mining town, his father died at a young age. He signed up with the US Navy as his “ticket out”.

When his Navy days were over he settled in Los Angeles, taught himself guitar and made a demo tape which opened the door to several hits and albums during the 70’s.

In a statement his family said “As private a life as he lived close to intimate family and friends, his music forever belongs to the world.”

Love that phrase “his music forever belongs to the world.”
