This is a bolt from the blue!

News in this evening that Meat Loaf (Marvin Lee Aday) has passed away.

The big guy literally stormed on to the world stage in 1977 with the album Bat Out Of Hell. So many great songs on it all penned by the late Jim Steinman. As the statement says, Bat Out Of Hell remains one of the top selling albums of all time. Justifiably so!

Many albums and singles followed but none eclipsed Bat Out Of Hell.

The man also appeared in several films along the way.

From memory, initial success didn’t come easily with the major labels not wanting a bar of it until a minor label picked it up, as they say, the rest was history.

Here is the statement released by his family announcing the sad news

Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight surrounded by his wife Deborah, daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends.His amazing career spanned 6 decades that saw him sell over 100 Million albums worldwide and star in over 65 movies, including “Fight Club”, “Focus”, “Rocky Horror Picture Show” and “Wayne’s World.”

“Bat Out of Hell” remains one of the top 10 selling albums of all time.We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man.We thank you for your understanding of our need for privacy at this time.From his heart to your souls…don’t ever stop rocking!A couple of the man’s best:You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night) and Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad.No copyright infringement intended
