Hi team…a double banger as we round off New Zealand Music Month with Little Fire Music Works.
Believe me I’ve been toiling over how to farewell the month but I’m going out on a limb and picking two Kiwi gems from either end of the music sphere.
First up is a band I first saw on Grunt Machine back in the 70’s (remember that?) As an impressionable teenage my first reaction was “what was that?!!!!”
Ragnarok were up there with Space Waltz and early Split Enz when it came to creativity, flare and musical ability.
With singer/songwriter Lea Maalfrid fronting along with Ramon York’s stunning guitar work, this band was hard to beat. Sadly Maalfrid left to pursue a solo career and Ragnarok after that were just not the same.
The band only recorded two albums, the first in my view is an true classic.
Like so many Kiwi acts Ragnarok was another great example of what might’ve been.
Clear your head, turn your speakers up and journey back to a bygone era with Butterfly Sky.
Second part of our Double down music burger as I mentioned is at the complete opposite of what Ragnarok were up to.
This cracker was something of a country classic in its day but now sadly consigned to history. But let’s hear it one more time for Garner Wayne and his Saddle Pals Love In A Fowl House.
Have a great week, keep warm and play music, lots of it!
