Hi there folks.
Welcome to my look in The Rear View Mirror, a semi regular look at what’s been going and not going on around Invers and further afield.
First up have you had a look at the demolition job in the central city. The demolition crews have really been at this week with a decent portion of the block already knocked over.
Also work on the new Langland’s Hotel just a block or so away is also coming along. Have you entered the WhatsonInvers Name The Crane contest yet?
The expansion of Pak’n Save is also coming along. That will make it a huge store when it is all finished.
What’s with all the panic buying of toilet paper and hand sanitizers over the last week or so? It just seemed to come out of no where and most outlets were cleaned out of the stuff.
The effects of the Covid19 outbreak are just escalating by the day with big sports events to be played behind closed doors, concerts and events being postponed or called off and now the US imposing a travel ban from Europe for 30 days.
Are you or do you know people caught up in any of this?
We’ve heard of quite a few people who are re thinking plans to travel to the northern hemisphere later this year. No northern summer for them.
On a brighter note, a special welcome to all the bands and supporters who are in Invers for the National Highland Pipe Band Champs that are on today and tomorrow (Sat)
And an even more special welcome to the Clan Gordon Pipe Band who have traveled all the way from Tacoma Washington to take part.
There are some strong ties with Tacoma with James Hargest College running exchange trips with Meeker Middle School in Tacoma for several years.
Please do your best to support the event at the Queens Park Cricket grounds. Reports out indicate that it’ll bring about $3m into the city. In these uncertain times, we’ll take it.
And congrats to the cast that will be performing in Invercargill Musical Theatre’s production of Les Miserable. Always a stunning show and this production will be no exception.
Have a great week, catch yer next time.
