More than a decade of dedicated service to Cycling Southland has been recognised with the bestowing of life membership on former president Lindsay Jordan.
The honour was presented to the sport administrator at the organisation’s annual meeting last week.
Cycling Southland general manager Mark Hotton said Jordan became involved in cycling when his daughter, Cathy, took up the sport in the early 2000s.
He held several roles within the organisation including sitting on the executive board for 14 years, and the finance committee for 12 years, and was president for five years during what was a challenging time for the organisation.
In addition to being on the organising committee for the successful UCI Junior World Track Championships hosted in Invercargill in 2012, Jordan also managed various Southland representative road and track teams, and was event manager for numerous national and Oceania track championships hosted in the city.
For several years a large proportion of the club’s organisational work fell on Jordan and his guiding hand and willingness to volunteer extensive periods of his time helped ensure it moved forward in a positive manner, Hotton said.
“Cycling Southland is indebted to the work that Lindsay and many others have put in to ensure its stability and future.”
Jordan’s efforts were also recognised at a national level when he was named Cycling New Zealand’s 2015 Official of the Year – Road and Track.
Jordan said he was surprised by the honour and was grateful to the support his family had provided to enable him to give so much to the organisation.
It had been an exciting 12 years working with a great bunch of people and he had really enjoyed it, he said.
Jordan has moved into the role of president of the Invercargill North Rotary Club.
His daughter Cathy has been also appointed to the executive board of Cycling Southland.
