UPDATED: The Southland Brick Show is on today and tomorrow (April 22-23) at the Ascot Park Hotel and there will be new displays, a bigger and better play area, Lego to purchase on-site – including the opportunity for Lego-lovers to purchase their own customised minifigure, to keep as a momentum.

Lego Users Group (LUG) South chairman Chris Dawson, along with other LUG South members and Lego exhibitors were at the Ascot Park Hotel in Invercargill early yesterday (April 21) morning setting up the space for the public.

Mr Dawson said the 9 sqm farm display, a large agricultural Lego-land, was ”fairly impressive”, and the public could create a minifigure by selecting their own body, head, legs and hat for $5 to take home with them.

There would also be the opportunity to buy actual built minifigures too, he said.

“Someone might be looking for a particular one to complete a set – and it might be here – you don’t know unless you come along,” he said.

Last year was the first time the show had been held in Invercargill after previously being held in Gore.

Mr Dawson said organisers were ”blown” away with the 6500 people who attended during the two-day show, and were confident and hopeful they will see those numbers again this weekend.

There will be plenty of Lego activities and competitions, raffles, and an extra-large play area for children and families to build in, including Lego Duplo blocks for younger children, he said.

Money raised from the event is donated to local charities – which this year will be selected after the show.

Tickets cost $3 per adult, $2 per child (under 13years), or $10 for a family pass (two adults and up to three children), under 2 years is free. Eftpos is available and tickets can only be purchased at the door.
