Herbie Flowers, not necessarily a household name but a musician with plenty of pedigree particularly in British rock n roll .

Herbie Flowers was mostly a session musician who played on dozens and dozens , lets say 20,000  singles and albums by all manner of recording artists like David Bowie, Marc Bolan (T Rex), Dusty Springfield to name just a few.

He was also a member of top British band of the early 70’s Blue Mink. Remember their hit Melting Pot, the song that NZ group When The Cats Away had a huge hit with back in the 80's.

Blue Mink also had huge hits with songs The Banner Man, By The Devil I Was Tempted and Randy.

One of Herbie’s most notable recording sessions was doing the two bass lines for Lou Reed’s Walk On The Wild Side. Legend has it that he recorded the two base lines as he would get paid twice!

In latter years Herbie downplayed his involvement in Walk On The Wildside saying in an interview “I’m sick of people saying Walk On the Wild Side is a classic. I got paid £12, and David Bowie didn’t even show up”
