Large Fire Near Tiwai Smelter Contained (photos & video)

Update: Fire and Emergency advise the fire near Tiwai is now contained.

Fire and Emergency confirm a scrub fire near the Tiwai Smelter in Southland, with Four helicopters and tankers being used to extinguish it.

Fire and Emergency received calls around 8pm Monday evening.

The blaze, which can be seen from Bluff.

The cause of the fire was not yet known.
