UPDATED: Firefighters responded to a large fire on Branxholme-Makarewa Rd in Southland earlier today. The fire, which engulfed a large industrial building was reported around 10:30 am Thursday.

Crews from Wallacetown, Winton, and Invercargill, along with tanker assistance from Otautau and Hedgehope, were dispatched to the scene. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far, and an ambulance attended, but all persons were accounted for.

Police have closed off the road, and the cause of the fire is believed to be an electrical fault. The fire has now been contained as of 11:15 am, and some appliances are being stood down.
