Preparations for the upcoming Kiwiana Christmas Festival and Market are ramping up at the Invercargill City Council.
Kiwi Christmas traditions are often a little different to those in the northern hemisphere, so for this year’s festival and market, organiser Gemma Crawford thought it would be great to celebrate all the things New Zealanders love most about their summer Christmases.
The Festival and Market will be held between 10am and 2pm on this Saturday, December 8.
Ms Crawford said a full line-up of local performers – from the Te Uki Ou Cook Islands Drumming group to Invercargill’s very own Rock n Roll dancers – will be coming along, so there’s sure to be something to entertain everyone.
“On the street you will find a local juggler, hula hooping, and stilt walkers along with the ever popular bouncy castles,” Ms Crawford said.
“You can satisfy your inner shopaholic with more than 30 market stalls including local products like handmade clothes, jewellery, toys, knitting, baking, natural beauty products, and of course we’ll have an array of food vendors to delight your tastebuds,” she said.
Applications are still open for stallholders, but will close at 5pm on Friday, November 30. Application forms are available on Council’s website.
Of course, retailers will be open too, so you can support our inner city businesses this Christmas and Keep it Local!
The Invercargill City Council is also running several competitions via its Facebook page, so be sure to check it out. If you aren’t on Social Media, don’t worry, as there will be plenty of spot prizes available at the Festival as well.
“We’d love to see you in Christmas costume, or you could get your face painted at the festival,” Ms Crawford said.
So grab your jandals, drag out your favourite summer T-shirt, and come along for a great day of Kiwiana Christmas fun.
