The Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel are looking to bring in temporary injury cover after shooter Kalifa McCollin sprained her ankle in Sunday’s win over the Northern Mystics.

McCollin landed awkwardly on her left ankle late in the fourth quarter, with a precautionary approach being taken leading into upcoming Round 8’s matches against Stars on Saturday and Magic on Monday.

Head coach Reinga Bloxham said it was important to look at extra cover after already losing Georgia Heffernan and Jennifer O’Connell to season-ending knee injuries.

“At the moment we are waiting on some imaging Kalifa is getting done today to see whether she will be able to take part in both Round 8 matches, so we are unsure if she will be limited or unable to play at all,” she said.

The Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel will look to confirm an interim replacement player later this week.
