Now in its third year, Kāhui Whetū has already established itself as a firm favourite on the local community event calendar. Filling the Gore Gardens to the brim with dazzling lights, delicious food trucks, kids’ entertainment and more, this free event has something for the whole family.
Thanks to generous support from new sponsors, there will be even more on offer this year.
Gore District Council Senior Events Coordinator Jessica Swan said the variety and standard of entertainment was next level.
“After the overwhelming success of Stella the Glow Fairy at the first two events, we knew we needed to bring in some friends to support her.
“Thanks to Mercury, this year we will have two new acts joining Stella who we know people will love – Mirror Man and a digital poi artist.”
Sponsorship from Mercury has also paid for the giant tipi to return, providing a cosy and warm space for people to gather – with a new twist.
“Tūhura Otago Museum will be projecting stars on the inside of the tipi, so even if the weather is cloudy, you’ll still be able to enjoy and learn more about Matariki.
“We are so grateful to Ray White Gore for sponsoring us to fund the museum’s presence and Mercury for providing the beautiful space for them to set up in.”
Community Trust South have provided funding for a second year, meaning even more improvements for attendees, Miss Swan said.
“The funding from Community Trust has helped us get two neon face painting artists instead of one, make sure we can rehire the fabulous Gravity Events to do lights again for this year’s event and to have two musicians for waiata in the food tent.
“After last year’s rain, we thought having a dry space to eat would go down well”
So, mark the calendar – 27 June at the Gore Gardens, between Ardwick and Fairfield streets, from 5:00pm – 9:00pm to catch this one night only FREE event.
