Jetstar has announced plans to start flying to regional destinations in New Zealand from later this year.
New destinations under consideration include Hamilton, Rotorua, New Plymouth, Napier and Palmerston North in the North Island and Nelson and Invercargill in the South Island, in addition to the Qantas subsidiary’s current network of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Queenstown.
Regional fares will go on sale in September with the first flights taking off in early December.
Venture Southland chief executive Paul Casson said the news that Invercargill was on the shortlist was encouraging, and promised to do everything he could to get Jetstar on board.
“This is very exciting and just another example of how good the region is performing.”
