Congratulations to our colleague Jess Hamill, who won a bronze medal at the Rio Paralympics this morning.

Jess, who works at the Southern District File Management Centre in Dunedin, threw 7.54 metres in the final of the Women’s Shotput F34 competition.

She adds her Paralympic bronze to silver medals from the IPC World Championships in 2006 and 2015 and the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in 2010. She also competed at the Beijing Paralympics in 2008 but was not among the medallists.

The gold today went to Chinese competitor Lijuan Zou, who claimed the world record with a massive 8.75-metre throw. Silver went to Lucyna Kornobys, of Poland, who threw 8 metres.

If you’d like to congratulate Jess, the Oceania and New Zealand record holder in her event, leave a comment on the post on the Police Facebook page.
