The sweet smell of hops, rain pattering on the roof, and a wall of glowing kegs provided an intimate atmosphere for an entrancing musical journey on Friday night.
Nottingham native, Tash Bird, opened the show with a strong vocal and telecaster driven set. Tash’s original compositions touched on emotive folk, hip-hop, and layered pop harmonies which were supported by lyrical and rhythmic complexities.
Florida based The Little Things continued the narrative with a polished vocal and ukulele set. Songs ranged from ethereal, almost medieval sounding ballads, to a poignant tribute, and an upbeat nod to one of New Zealand’s most powerful woman ~cough cough Xena ~ # Lucy Lawless
🙂.
Then, like a multinational Power Rangers, the team transformed into a musical Megazord (with “sweet hair”) better known as the Jas Josland Band.
Fronted by Jas Josland, Christchurch-based singer/songwriter/storyteller, the audience was treated to a musical roller-coaster from her new album, “See what you did there”.
Jas was in fine form all night; a bluesy guitar swagger combined with distinctive vocals reminiscence of Stevie Nicks, Gin Wigmore, and Tami Neilson.
The band, now mid-tour, sounded great with highlights including the building dynamics of “Poison Me”, “Lie to yourself”, and the catchy-as-hell “Money” (check out the album on YouTube, Spotify, iTunes and SoundCloud).
Thanks for a great evening Jas, Tash, Katy, and Shanece. Kudos to Massav Productions and Invercargill Brewery for organizing such a stellar occasion.
