Irene Cara – R I P

Sad news from the weekend with the passing of Singer-songwriter, actor  Irene Cara.

Who doesn’t remember her playing Coco Hernandez in the hit movie Fame?

That success was followed a couple of years later with Cara co writing  Flashdance…What A Feeling, the theme from the monster hit movie Flashdance. One of those movies that helped define the early to mid 80’s

The success of Flashdance…What A Feeling was tainted when Irene Cara discovered she was being short changed with the royalty cheques. A bitter court battle followed .

Some years later the cheques eventually started to arrive, but soon after the record label and its owner declared bankruptcy saying they were unable to pay  the $1.5m owed to her.

That and other court actions contributed to stalling what was a stellar career.

Irene Cara passed away at her home in Florida over the weekend, actual cause of death has not yet been revealed.
