Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has today announced a refreshed ministerial lineup to continue fixing the basics and protecting New Zealand’s future, with Invercargill MP Penny Simmonds joining cabinet.
“New Zealanders are facing economic challenges brought on by conflict in the Middle East and its effect on fuel supply across the world,” says Christopher Luxon.
“Having a strong ministerial team with real-world experience to deliver our response is crucial. Today’s reshuffle reflects that and brings in new talent.
“Penny Simmonds will join Cabinet with responsibility for Tertiary Education and Science, Innovation and Technology. "Penny has successfully delivered reforms to the vocational education sector, from outside Cabinet, and will now bring her extensive governance experience to her new portfolios. "These changes will come into effect on Tuesday 7 April."Ms Simmonds said, from Parliament today, that she was deeply honoured.
"I am proud to represent the people of Invercargill and Southland as a minister inside cabinet.
"And I look forward to continuing to work hard for our province and for NZ, as we continue to fix the basics and protect our country's future."She said she would spend the Easter break reading and familiarising herself with the new Science, Innovation and Technology portfolio.Prior to this Ms Simmonds was a "minister outside cabinet."
