An emphasis on embracing technology and working alongside clients to grow smarter, better businesses saw leading accounting & business development firm Malloch McClean take out the title of ‘Xero Large Partner of the Year’ at the 2019 Xero Awards, held recently at The Opera House in Wellington.
CEO John Schol is proud of the achievement. “Winning this award is not only fantastic for the Malloch McClean team, it is also great for our clients and the provinces we serve.” He says.
“Xero has been a game-changer for us,” says Schol. “Helping our clients succeed means giving them up-to-date and timely information, and Xero allows us to do that.”
Back in New Zealand for the first time in six years, the Xero Awards celebrate the role that accountants play in helping Kiwi businesses thrive. An “overwhelming” number of nominations, including a record number of partner award submissions, were received in eight award categories.
The Xero Large Partner of the Year Award recognises the Xero accounting partner who has used Xero to offer the best value-added services to their clients from 1 July 2018 to 1 July 2019.
Judges Peter Vial, Phil Veal, Andrew Hamilton, and Vic Crone remarked how Malloch McClean has transformed a traditional accounting firm into one with a more modern approach. “The evolution they have gone through and the cultural change, in particular, made them stand out in our books.”
Malloch McClean has moved a large firm of 70 team members to a cloud-based system while expanding their presence to the Tasman region. They have 48 Xero Certified Team members and coach other accounting firms across New Zealand to make the same transition.
“The use of technology is allowing us to have smarter, better discussions with our clients on a regular basis instead of waiting until year end.” Schol says. “We are now having more conversations around looking forward instead of looking back, and that’s more exciting.”
“Change is inevitable,” Schol claims, “this award reflects the investment in our people, technology, and how we work. Our approach has been to support clients to prepare a plan, produce timely information, and regularly monitor progress.”
Malloch McClean also host free, interactive weekly Tech Tuesday Xero sessions to help small businesses be more confident and give them the skills to gain better business insights that lead to smarter decisions. Their next session is Tuesday 3rd September.
