The community of Invercargill is set to gather this Saturday, April 6, at 7 pm at the Civic Theatre to address the concerning rise in youth crime. Mayor Nobby Clark has spearheaded the organisation of this pivotal meeting, aiming to shed light on recent incidents involving property damage, vehicle theft, and assault by local youths. In his words, Mayor Clark stated, “Our city has experienced an inappropriate level of youth crime, including property crime, stolen vehicles and assault. I am holding a community meeting that will allow those impacted to advise us of their experience and what can be done to manage these issues going forward.”
The session is designed to foster open communication between Invercargill residents and various representatives, including elected members, the police force, Community Patrol, and MP Penny Simmonds, who are all expected to attend.
This event marks a significant effort by city officials to collaborate with the community in identifying effective strategies to combat youth crime and enhance public safety.
