Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Baird has confirmed that a youth has been arrested in connection with the arson of a vehicle on Moulson Street in Invercargill. The incident occurred on Saturday 11 March around 7.30am.

The 14 year old teen is due to reappear in Invercargill District Court on 22 March 2023, and has been charged with the arson of the vehicle on Moulson Street, as well as four burglaries and theft of a vehicle related to the vehicle fire on Moulson Street.

Invercargill Police are also investigating the theft of a second ute late last week, and are currently following strong lines of enquiry. The ute was stolen from Moulson Street late on Friday 10 or early Saturday 11 March, and was found abandoned and destroyed by fire on Miller Street about 9am Saturday.

Police are currently reviewing video footage which has been provided, and are urging anyone with information about these incidents to come forward. Enquiries are ongoing to determine whether the two incidents are linked and to determine what occurred.
