Three Invercargill cyclists will represent New Zealand at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games next year.

Nick Kergozou, Marshall Erwood, and Tom Sexton have been selected for the track cycling team that will compete in Scotland from July 23 to August 2, 2026.

Kergozou will race in the men's elimination race, while Erwood and Sexton will both compete in individual pursuit events. The trio joins a strong New Zealand track cycling squad of 18 riders.

The team includes sprint specialist Ellesse Andrews, who will compete across four events including the women's team sprint and keirin. Paralympic medallists Nicole Murray and Devon Briggs will represent New Zealand in para-cycling events.

Other notable selections include Ally Wollaston and Emily Shearman in the women's team pursuit, and George Jackson in the men's points race.

The Glasgow Games mark a return to Scotland for the Commonwealth Games, which were last held there in 2014. The 2026 event will bring together athletes from across Commonwealth nations in what organisers are billing as a streamlined version focused on core sports.

New Zealand has a strong track cycling heritage at Commonwealth Games level, regularly finishing among the top medal-winning nations in the velodrome. The sport has been a consistent performer for the country since the 1990s.

The Invercargill trio will have just over 18 months to prepare for the Games. Track cycling at Commonwealth level typically features intense competition from traditional powerhouses including Australia, England, and Canada.

The full New Zealand track cycling squad also includes Rebecca Petch and Olivia King in sprint events, plus tandem pairing Emma Foy and pilot Jessie Hodges in para-cycling competition.
