Invercargill City Council Works

  • Sydney Street Pipe Upgrade – SouthRoads is upgrading pipes along Sydney Street between St Andrew Street and King Street. Traffic management will include one-lane closures and parking restrictions. Access to homes will be maintained, though delays are possible. The work is expected to finish by the end of August. Residents and businesses should have received further details by letter.
  • Tay Street Asphalt Resurfacing – Work will take place on Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 March from 6pm. Approved detours for HPMV vehicles will be in place.
    • Northbound: Closed at the Tweed Street roundabout, with access to Burger King via Forth Street. A hard closure will be in place north of this vehicle crossing.
    • Eastbound and Westbound: Well-signed detours will divert traffic along approved routes, with VMS boards notifying heavy vehicles in advance.
    • Southbound: Access to the inner city will remain available, or drivers can detour via Yarrow Street.

State Highway Works

Highways South will conduct work with temporary traffic lights or stop/go systems alongside reduced speed limits. The affected areas include:

  • SH6 Dipton-Winton Highway between Benmore and Dipton – Surface renewal with chip seal
  • SH94 Te Anau Mossburn Highway at Wilderness Road – Surface renewal with chip seal
  • SH96 Wreys Bush Nightcaps Highway at Wreys Bush – Pavement renewal

Additional Road Work

  • SH94 Mossburn Lumsden Highway – Cycling race scheduled this Saturday with “Share the Road” reminders in place.
  • SH6 & 96 Intersection North of Winton – Powernet line maintenance.

Road Marking
Mobile road marking operations will take place in these locations:

  • SH6 Urban Areas – Invercargill and Lumsden (nightshift)
  • SH6 Invercargill to Five Rivers – Rural areas
  • SH1 Old Edendale Road – Mobile operation

Road Closures
The following closures have been scheduled for maintenance work:

  • Bridge Inn Road (10 March – 1 May) – Closed for bridge replacement over Waikiwi Stream with detours via O’Rourke Road, King Road, and others.
  • Derby Road (Limehills) (11 March – 30 April) – Closed for pavement rehabilitation with a detour via Dipton Winton Highway.
  • Opio Road (17 – 19 March) – Closed for culvert replacement with alternative dates 24 – 26 March.
  • Plantation Street (Lumsden) (18 March) – Closed for new water main installation.
  • Rowley Road (Tuatapere) (24 March – 4 April) – Closed for culvert replacement, with alternative dates 31 March – 11 April.
