- Invercargill roadworks on Tay Street and Queens Drive to start this week.
- Southland closures include Mokonui Street, Marshall Road, and Govan Drive.
- State highway repairs and resealing works will affect key routes in the district.
Invercargill and Southland motorists are being reminded to prepare for scheduled roadworks and closures across the region in the coming days.
Invercargill Roadworks
- SH1 Tay Street: Eastbound lanes between Troopers roundabout and Deveron Street will close nightly from 6pm to 6am for resurfacing works. These closures start Sunday evening and are expected to finish by Monday morning, weather permitting. Vehicles parked in Invercargill Central carpark must exit by 6pm each evening.
- Queens Drive: Night resealing begins on 28 January from Herbert Street to the river. This section of the road will close nightly from 5:30pm to 6am, with detours in place. Residents will still have access to their homes, but delays may occur. The road will reopen during the day with traffic management in place. Work is expected to finish in a few weeks but may be delayed due to weather.
Scheduled Southland Road Closures
- Mokonui Street, Te Anau: Closed on 31 January from Town Centre to McKerrow Street between 10:30am and 3:30pm for the Make-A-Wish street party. No detour will be available.
- Marshall Road, Awarua Wetlands: Closed on 4 February between Lawson Road and Cook Road from 7am to 5pm for culvert replacement. A detour will be available via Lawson Road, Hansen Road, and Marshall Road. Residents will still have access to properties near the construction site.
- Govan Drive, Te Anau: Closed from 3 to 7 February from Anderson Place to the dead end for fibre installation. If work is delayed, the alternative closure period will be 10 to 14 February. Residents will have property access, but no detour will be available.
Resealing Works
Southland resealing works for this week include:
- 27-28 January: Waimea Valley Road
- 29 January: State Highway 6 (Jollies first coat)
- 30 January: Nine Mile Road and York Road (Riversdale).
State Highway Repairs and Restrictions
Temporary traffic management, including speed limits and stop/go controls, will be in place across Southland highways. Locations include:
- SH94 Te Anau-Mossburn highway, SH6 Winton-Lorneville highway, and SH97 Mossburn-Five Rivers highway for pavement repairs
- SH96 Glencoe and SH96 Wreys Bush-Nightcaps highways for drainage work
- SH99 north of Tuatapere for surface repairs
