There’s a few new indoor bowls champions in Invercargill at the moment, after significant wins by both men and women at the Charted Clubs New Zealand National Tournament.
The Invercargill Workingmen’s Club Indoor Bowls club brought home three national titles, a second and two third equal placings at separate events.
Club member Lindsay Rowley said the men’s event was held in Christchurch with Gary Low winning the singles title again, and Graham Low placed third equal.
Graham and Lindsay then went on to win the pairs titles, with Gary and Peter Howley third.
Two days later, Graham Low, Matthew Tosh, Stephen Langley and Peter Howley came in runners up in the fours by a single point.
Meanwhile, up north the women were playing in Upper Hutt, and Jan Low and Alison Rowley matched their husbands, winning the women’s pair’s two weeks later.
“These are outstanding achievements by all players attending these tournaments,” Lindsay said.
It was also the first time that the men’s pairs champions wives won the same event.
Invercargill WMC has won 6 times from the last 7 events – but this year was by far the strongest.
“We’ve won more than we thought which is great for Southland.”
