Invercargill filmmaker James Wilkinson has won a top award in the 48 Hour Film Competition featured in his film The Black Ballet. Sir Peter Jackson choose their film The Black Ballet as one of his Wildcards, qualifying them to the finals.

15 finalists were selected by a panel of judges, plus Sir Peter Jackson selected further three including The Super Furious Ninja Dragon teams the Black Ballet.

The filming took place across three nights including one night where we closed off Esk st and laid down a red carpet to film the dance sequence

Of the film.  We then spent a year in post-production working on the edit and music, before the film screened overseas, we’re now really pleased to be able to put the film on line and share it with everyone involved.

We were really happy to have massive support from the community for the project, including local funding from SIT, ILT and the Community Trust of Southland. Several local businesses also lent us their shops for locations and the council where very generous with helping to close Esk st off for the filming.
