- Refunds issued for parking tickets from July 2022 to February 2024.
- Tickets for parking meter violations will be cancelled and refunded.
- Public consultation on bylaw amendments from May 29 to June 28, 2024.
Invercargill City Council has decided to refund all parking tickets incorrectly issued between 1 July 2022 and 29 February 2024 under the current Parking Control Bylaw. Any tickets issued for failing to activate the parking meter in a metered space will be cancelled and refunded.
Council Chief Executive Michael Day stated, “As a Council it’s important that we take ownership when a mistake has occurred and ensure that we remedy the situation as quickly as possible. In this instance, we will be refunding and cancelling a number of parking infringement notices, which have been incorrectly charged.”
The Council has begun identifying those affected and will work with the community throughout this process. Those who believe they have been impacted should visit the Council website for more information.
Outstanding infringement notices that have not been paid have been automatically cancelled, with confirmation letters sent to vehicle owners. Since ownership details from NZTA are provided 28 days after an infringement notice is issued, individuals who have paid fines within this period must request a refund.
Members of the public who believe they are entitled to a refund should visit: Council Refund Request Page and complete the refund request form.
The Council is also proposing amendments to the Parking Control Bylaw, with public consultation open from May 29 to June 28, 2024. Proposed changes aim to make the bylaw easier to understand and include a trial of disabled taxi parks in the city centre, following feedback from the disabled community.
