Invercargill motorists are being advised of several significant infrastructure projects taking place across the city, with lane reductions and road closures in place over the coming months.
Stormwater and foul sewer pipes are being replaced on Bainfield Road between North Road and Myers Street. The road is reduced to one lane while work continues, with completion expected in March.
Bay Road is also undergoing foul sewer renewal. The next stage of work will take place between Drury Lane and Stobo Street, with both the Drury–Bay and Stobo–Bay intersections closed. The road is closed in sections, and the project is expected to be completed by March 2026.
On Gorge Road, works are under way between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday. Outbound traffic is reduced to one lane, while inbound traffic is diverted via Kennington Waimatua Road or Motu Rimu Road. Completion is expected in late April.

A foul sewer main upgrade is also under way on Miller Street. The road remains open one way from Layard Street to Tweed Street, with work due to finish in April.
Across the wider Southland district, there are currently no scheduled water shutdowns.

The closure runs between Kennington Waimatua Road and Blondell Road, with a detour available via Kennington Waimatua Road, Nally Road and Blondell Road.
Heavy rain has caused significant slip damage to Percy Saddle Road, washing out around 600 metres of road and destroying several culverts. Transpower have arranged a geotechnical assessment for 17 February, with repairs to follow as soon as possible.
On the state highway network, work continues on SH90 Waikaka Valley highway between Waikaka Road and Cunningham Road until late March, with delays of five to 10 minutes expected. For more information check the Highways South map.
