For the first time, Milford Aerodrome is under a rigorous, risk-based safety framework, showcasing IAL’s forward-thinking approach to supporting tourism and transport in New Zealand.

Chief Executive of NZ Airports Association, Billie Moore, described IAL’s efforts as “a pivotal step in ensuring long-term viability and alignment with modern safety standards.” The recognition also reflects the organisation’s capability to manage multiple aviation assets with outstanding innovation.

Julie Jack, IAL’s Commercial and Business Development Manager, expressed pride in the achievement: “It’s incredibly rewarding to be recognised for embracing the challenge of remote aerodrome management, one of the first airports nationally to do so. This award affirms our commitment to leading with innovative, smart solutions that uphold operational excellence despite the distance.”

The upgrades have significantly improved safety and operational efficiency, strengthening Milford Aerodrome’s role as a gateway to the world-renowned Milford Sound. This project has reinforced IAL’s reputation as a trusted aviation partner, demonstrating expertise in managing complex facilities while creating new revenue opportunities.

IAL CEO Stuart Harris praised the team and partners, stating, “This award is a testament to our dedicated team, including our partner QAOSH Aviation, who have embraced innovation and collaboration to bring Milford Aerodrome into a new era of safety and service. We aim to elevate the passenger experience and support New Zealand’s tourism by ensuring Milford Aerodrome remains a world-class destination.”
