Starting Monday, major upgrades aimed at improving the safety of the Lindisfarne and Yarrow streets intersection in Invercargill will commence. This intersection, known for its high number of accidents, will undergo significant changes to enhance road user safety.

Erin Moogan, Group Manager Infrastructure at Invercargill City Council, expressed enthusiasm about the project’s progress. “We’re addressing a critical need at the Yarrow and Lindisfarne streets intersection, which has seen 18 crashes in the last five years. These enhancements will significantly improve safety for all road users,” said Moogan.

During the construction period, westbound traffic on Yarrow Street will remain open, while eastbound traffic and Lindisfarne Street from Mitchell to Baird Streets will be temporarily closed. Detours will be clearly marked, and road users are advised to use alternate routes via Tay and St Andrew streets.

The bus stop on Yarrow Street will move temporarily to Ritchie Street. Passengers can also hail buses at any safe point along the route. Parking for local businesses at the Lindisfarne Shopping Centre will be available off Mitchell Street.

  • The project is scheduled for completion by mid-June, dependent on weather conditions.
