The Venture Southland Inter-Schools Speech contests have been held this week.
Whatsoninvers news director Mal Gayfer was invited along to be part of the judging panel at the contest held at James Hargest Junior High School this afternoon.
Mal says the contestants were very competent speakers and covered a wide range of topics from a sugar tax, the Moon, frozen peas to the Tangiwai disaster .
He says overall there was little to separate the speakers and the winners and placegetter’s from the other contestants.
