The Southland Sharks have announced the first player signing for the 2023 Sal’s NBL season, with Brayden Inger confirming his return for a third season in orange. Inger, who rose to prominence in 2021 with an outstanding debut NBL season, is eager to help the Sharks bounce back after a challenging season last year. “Obviously we didn’t do as well as we would have liked to last year, so personally, there’s a bit of a chip on my shoulder to bounce back from that and also be part of a group with the same drive to push each other,” Inger said.

Excited to continue developing his game under new Head Coach Guy Molloy, Inger said, “Keeping a top-tier standard of coaching is something all clubs want, and I’m stoked to work with someone of Guy’s calibre. He seems like a great man and takes on players’ thoughts, which I think is great for a coach to do.”

Molloy, who brings first-hand experience of Inger as an opponent from his previous coaching role, said, “It’s great news that the club has re-signed Brayden. He was a difficult player to prepare for with his height, skill, and shooting ability. He has already been a great resource in bringing the new Sharks team together. I’m very excited to begin our journey together.”

The Sharks will open their 2023 Sal’s NBL Season on April 7th, Good Friday, against the Manawatu Jets at ILT Stadium Southland. Season tickets for all nine home games are now available at ILT Stadium Southland.
