The High Commissioner of India to New Zealand is coming to Invercargill this weekend, and will participate in Asana yoga as well as interact with the local community.
Also in conjunction with International Yoga Day on Sunday, the event starts at 11am and Her Excellency Ms Neeta Bhushan, will be the chief guest for the event.
Anybody is welcome to participate in the yoga session, followed by a free light lunch and there will be a dedicated time for the Indian Community to interact with her and ask questions.
This is the first time an Indian High Commissioner has come down to participate in the event in Invercargill, and hosted by the Indian Community in Southland (ICS).
President Vinay Sood said ICS has been in touch with her for several years, and she recognises the efforts made by the group for the Southland community.
“ICS has been supporting the Indian community in Southland and trying to preserve Indian culture and add value to the Southland community through various cultural as well as educational events and workshops.”
“It is very big for us that that the High Commissioner recognises our efforts, so we want to make it a big event with their presence, so more and more people can benefit from the health benefits of yoga,” Vinay said.
People are encouraged to bring their own yoga mat, which you can buy from the supermarket starting price from $6. However, there will be some mats ICS will provide if people don’t have one.
ICS has organised a few free yoga sessions in the past and will keep doing them in the future for the Southland community, who would like to indulge more in yoga for a healthy lifestyle and fitness.
