Impressive. That’s what it is now and impressive is what it will be when our new Langlands Hotel opens for business. whatsoninvers.nz along with other media were given a first hand lookover and update on construction work going on behind the yellow screen that encases the construction site.

On our last visit back in August we were taken the 4th floor which was as high as we could go. Since then they’ve added another three floors so we were on the top looking out.

The powers that be assured us that work is running to schedule and the building is expected to be handed over the the ILT at the end of this year with the Langland’s expected to be open about this time next year.

ILT CEO Chris Ramsey says exactly what form the opening will be is yet to be decided and may well hinge on what happens this year, suggesting any Covid related developments could have an impact on any opening dates. Fingers crossed that that doesn’t happen

Back to today, Chris Ramsey and ILT President Alan Dennis were as keen as mustard to reveal that the 7th floor will become a top floor bar and eating area.

Chris Ramsey says this will be a special area for guests and the public alike  with 360 degree views of Invers and its surrounds to take in. Indeed the views all around are impressive.

He says the as yet unnamed bar will be a really special place to take in watching the night sky in winter to enjoying our late sunsets in summer, emphasizing that the bar and adjoining area will be open to all to make it viable. He says there will not be anything like it in the city. Indeed there won’t.

One point we noted is that Lofty the Crane is very close to the working area on the 7th floor. Close but not close enough to touch, all precision measurements.

Btw Lofty will be here til the end of July all going to plan.

Be assured the Langlands site is a hive of activity behind the big screen with 60 to 75 people on site each day. Leigh’s Construction Project manager Paul Brailey says that number will increase as more and more of the interior work gets started.

Chris Ramsey adds that the number of invoices will also ratchet up as more work gets completed.

Both Paul and Chris say that Leigh’s have done a great job in using local contractors and labour as much as possible. That has to be good for our city, people in work earning good money.

Keep an eye on the site on the corner of Dee and Don Street, things are and will change quickly.
