There were some impressive efforts during Sunday’s motor racing presented by Downer at Teretonga Park near Invercargill.
Invercargill youngster Jordan Michels had a stellar weekend in the South Island Formula Ford Championship. He qualified on pole in the rain on Saturday and then scored two impressive wins on Sunday before finishing second to Australian based kiwi, Hunter McElrea in the final race. Over the course of the three races McElrea also secured a third place, Dyson Freeman of Blenheim a second and a third while Ethan Anderson of Riverton recorded a third place and two fourths and Robert Toshach of Christchurch a second placing.

Dunedin driver Steve Ross dominated the OSCA/Sport Saloons with three wins in his impressive 6 litre Jaguar XK8. Ross overcame handicaps in two of the races and also set a new OSCA lap record of 59.363 seconds. Lawrence Knowler of Clyde (Brennan Camaro) and Pierre Neame of Winton (Ford Mustang) were second and third respectively in the first two races while Gary Duncan of Temuka in an EVO and Dion Prentice of Cromwell (Corvette) were second and third in the finale.
Ross also won the Noel McIntyre Drainage Clubmans Saloon Flying Farewell, going even quicker with a time of 58.912 seconds. Brian Scott of Dunedin was second in his Corvette with Liam MacDonald of Invercargill third in his Ford Falcon.
Andrew Cundall of Invercargill did not contest the Flying Farewell but won all three Clubmans Races. In the first he headed home Scott and MacDonald while in the second and third races he beat Steve Ross and Scott across the line. Cundall also took Class 4 honours while Jason Crosbie of Invercargill (Fiat 124) won Class 3, Andrew Muir of Gore (Honda Civic) Class 2 and Invercargill driver Walter Willmott (Star Car), Class 1.

Justin Ashwell of Christchurch (Falcon AU) took three from three in Class 1 of the NZ SIX Saloons, beating Russell Keeler of Gore and Alvin Frew (Waikouaiti) each time. He also established a class lap record of 1 minute 10.566. Wayne Christie of Christchurch led Class 2 home in the first two races in his Falcon before crashing in the third, handing victory to Boyd Norwood of Paraparaumu (Falcon) who had been second to Christie in the earlier races.
New Zealand Champion Hamish Collins of Timaru won all three Pro 7 races. Two were clear cut but in the reverse grid race he dropped down the order after a spin. He recovered and when Jack Milligan of Prebbleton contacted leader Mitchell Hamilton on the final lap spinning Hamilton out of the race, in an incident that also affected Ken Thompson, Milligan was penalised handing the win to Collins ahead of Toby Marsh and Thompson.
The Mini 7 South class was dominated by Mark Mitchell of Christchurch but behind him father and son Scott and Bailey Paterson had several stirring battles with Bailey taking two seconds and a third while Scott took a second and two thirds.
The next race meeting at Teretonga the annual international meeting over the weekend of 23/24 January.
