PowerNet Chief Executive Paul Blue has issued an important update as crews continue working tirelessly to restore power across Southland and South Otago following the recent severe weather.
“We have restored power to a further 630 customers today,” Mr Blue said. “If you still don’t have power and haven’t told us, please get in touch.”
Residents who are still without power and have not yet reported their outage are urged to do so. Logging individual faults helps crews prioritise and plan restoration more efficiently.
How to Report a Fault
- Online: Complete the individual fault form at powernet.co.nz
- Phone: Call 0800 808 587This is the quickest and most efficient way to ensure your outage is recorded.
Property Damage – What You Should Do
If there is obvious damage to the electrical service line within your property boundary, you should contact a qualified electrician. While this may not immediately restore your power, it ensures your property is safe and ready to be reconnected once crews reach your area.
Support Is Available
Mr Blue reminds residents that help is available if they are struggling.
“Please reach out for help if you need it. You can contact Emergency Management Southland or Otago, or the Rural Support Trust. They are there to help.”
By the Numbers (as at 4pm, 1 November)
| Network | Total Customers | Without Power |
|---|---|---|
| The Power Company Limited (Southland) | 38,200 | 1,290 |
| OtagoNet (South Otago) | 15,700 | 1,100 (Expected to reduce by tomorrow as crews work to restore several larger sites tonight.) |
These numbers will continue to change as faults are identified and repairs are completed. From today onwards, PowerNet will provide outage figures once daily in the late afternoon.
